This practical 5-day course for mixed ability musicians and dancers explores improvisation, helping you to achieve freedom through discipline and structure. The course is led by State of Emergency’s founders Deborah Baddoo MBE and Steve Marshall.
To mark its 35th anniversary in 2021 State of Emergency is offering ‘The Language of Rhythm’. For this the company will draw on its wide network of international dancers and musicians to provide an unforgettable experience.
The days will be broken down into three sessions including a group daily movement/warm up class for all participants. Class will be followed by a break-out session, then lunch, and after lunch a longer afternoon session. There will be scheduled breaks and enough time for critical feedback and discussion.
The week includes improvisation and new composition/choreography plus a sharing event on the Friday afternoon.
A professional performance by the State of Emergency company will take place on Thursday 7 July at 8pm – find out more about this evening event and purchase tickets this way.
Basic knowledge and some ability is essential. Although the course is aimed at mixed ability, we would expect all participants to bring some skills and have a willingness to learn and improve.
This is going to be a highly enjoyable and immersive experience for those who attend, and we anticipate that some of the participants will show significant promise and have professional aspirations. Age suitability 16+
